Bourne supplied and erected the structural steelwork to form the turbine hall, staircases and access platforms surrounding the turbine, as well as the open mesh flooring, crane rails for gantries and the extensive process pipe work surrounding the perimeter of the turbine hall.
The steelwork was designed to comply with American Codes and we worked to these in regard to the connection design, the fabrication and the erection methods. The latter included the use of separately supplied column base plates, which were positioned and grouted before the 12 tonne column shafts were positioned.
The nine, 30 metre span roof trusses for the turbine hall were erected at night to allow other contractors to safely continue work within the turbine hall during the day. Safety lights were built onto the trusses to enable the night lifts to operate.
