The Marq, previously known as Dukes Court, is a redevelopment in the heart of St James’s featuring 35,000sqft (3,252sqm) of offices, from the first to the sixth floor, and 11,000sqft of retail and restaurant space at ground and basement levels.
Bourne were appointed by Skanska to provide the design, fabrication and installation of 660 tonnes of structural steelwork for the development, including metal decking and corrosion and fire protection coating.
Unusually, the structural design features single storey Billet columns to maximise space and to create a more aesthetically-pleasing and neater interior finish. In keeping with the steelwork’s aesthetic theme, many of the column splice connections were designed to be within the floor depth, in order to hide them from view as many areas of the steel frame remain exposed in the completed building.
It is one of the first WELL Shell and Core Certified buildings in the UK, recognised for being designed as a healthy and productive space and stands as an innovative example of contemporary buildings from The Crown Estate.
