04-July-18: Bourne Group surpasses 1 million hours RIDDOR free

The Bourne Group is proud to announce that the company has surpassed one million man-hours without a RIDDOR Reportable Incident.

To put this milestone into perspective, it would take 100 men working a 40 hour week, over 5 years to achieve.

This is an outstanding achievement considering the high-risk environments our employees work in, both in our manufacturing facility and construction sites.

Bourne has implemented a number of forward thinking initiatives to enhance the health and wellbeing of all its employees and sub-contractors, empowering the workforce to be more safety conscious. Through our Safety Incentive Scheme, coloured cards are issued to encourage employees and subcontractors to work safely. Managers are encouraged to focus on positive reinforcement of good practice by issuing green cards to those that go above and beyond what is expected. A focus on Near Miss reporting has also proved to be a powerful safety tool which has a daily impact on safe thinking. All staff are encouraged to note both safe and unsafe practices and observations, and submit them for review and action; this has ensured that potential hazards are eliminated before they cause harm.

In 2017 Bourne also implemented a new online induction process, enabling us to deliver a consistent, comprehensive induction to all persons, setting out clear expectations and enabling us to test each individuals understanding of the content before they start work.

Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, Malcolm Coles commented “Everyone involved in achieving this landmark should be applauded for their continual efforts. As always our ultimate aim is to ensure that our workforce are kept safe whilst carrying out our work activities and they return home safely each day. Here’s to continuing this performance into 2018 and beyond.”
