We are very proud to announce that Bourne Steel fabricator, George Perry has won the Craft Skills Award in the Metals Industry Apprentice of the Year Competition.

This is the only competition specifically for metals industry apprentices and aims to recognise individuals who have made exceptional progress in developing their knowledge, skills and career and who have made an outstanding contribution to their company.

George was put forward for the award by Production Manager, John Flynn who has said “George’s ability as a fabricator is outstanding. He is often asked to complete complex fabrications and with George you know that the work will be right first time. Even on the most difficult and heavy welds George’s work always passes our quality standards first time. We have recently undertaken some heavily engineered execution class three work which George has taken in his stride.

“George has an excellent time keeping and attendance record and is always willing to help the business. I have been involved in his last collage project, which required him to interact with senior members of our business and each commented on how George came across and his eloquent communication, both verbal and written.

“As George’s skills, have developed, both on the practical and theoretical side, he has through his own efforts been able to complete his apprenticeship nine months earlier than planned and has become a valued member of the Bourne Steel business.”

George was shortlisted for the award following the initial application in February. He then attended an interview in April where he was required to present evidence of his progression and achievements.

George was crowned the winner out of 22 applicants from globally known organisations and was presented with his award at the Court Dinner of The Worshipful Company of Tin Plate Workers (alias Wire Workers).
