19-Jan-2016: Engineering scholarship launched with Brunel University

Engineering Scholarship

Bourne Construction Engineering has launched a scholarship to encourage young people to take their first step towards a career in engineering.

The Scholarship has been launched in the name of former Bourne Chairman, David Sands who was presented with a trophy and certificate by Brunel University Development Director, Clive Gee.

The David Sands Scholarship is available to one student every year within the School of Civil/Structural Engineering at Brunel University, commencing in September 2016.

It is for those wanting to do a Bachelor’s degree (with placement year) and not Masters/Post grad studies, as the principle is to support those entering a career in engineering.

Bourne intends to support one student per year and will assist the university in selecting the right applicant.

This is the first scholarship solely for engineering at Brunel University, and while there is no guarantee, Bourne hope that it will enable each student to take their work placement year with the company and also encourage them to apply for the Bourne graduate programme upon conclusion of their degree.

Bourne Chief Executive Steve Govier commented: “David Sands made a significant contribution to the business over the past 30 years and has always believed in giving opportunities to trainees and young people. This scholarship creates a very fitting legacy.”
