Bourne Parking’s Special Projects Award for The Common, Hatfield is in the news. This car park celebrates Hatfield’s heritage and place in aviation history with exterior feature panels depicting aircraft in the style of Airfix kits. The façade displays a series of iconic de Havilland aircraft such as the Tiger Moth biplane, all-wooden Mosquito bomber and Vampire jet. Perforated metal sheet with variations in the hole size have been used to create the patterns, while the solid elements of cladding are intended to act as reference to riveted panels and metal finishes. It is a fitting tribute to the many Hatfield local residents who would have worked on the aerodrome designing and manufacturing these incredible aeroplanes. A unique and deserving winner at the British Parking Awards 2021.
