Dec 24 – Inside job

Structural engineers are the unsung heroes who ensure our structures are safe, stable, and sustainable. Blending creativity with sound technical knowledge, they shape the world around us by designing buildings to withstand specific loadings and meet various constraints, whilst adhering to the appropriate design standards. But they are not the only cogs in the complex construction wheel.

In December, two of our finest structural engineers, Bistra and Ana, joined forces with our incredible team of highly skilled fabricators to experience the practical side of their detailed design.

A critical skill that underpins our industry, fabricating is much more than cutting and joining parts together – it is about producing structurally sound and durable details that safeguard structures against the applied stresses throughout their design life.

No matter where you look, you will see something that would be impossible to do without a fabricator. And in our Bourne Group factories, Bistra and Ana experienced 3 days in their shoes, witnessing first-hand the innovative technology and human ingenuity that comes together to produce the amazing feats of engineering we see around us each day.

Two very different arms of the business, but both equally indispensable in ensuring the integrity, longevity and public safety of all our structures.
