The ICON Outlet is located within The O2, a large entertainment venue on the Greenwich Peninsula. Bourne Steel were responsible for the fabrication and erection of 1,800 tonnes of structural steel for the construction of a new retail village that completes the ‘ring’ of outlets surrounding the O2 Arena.
The development is split between alterations to an existing structure with elements of new build and a predominantly new build structure over a former service yard. Part of the structure is two-storey and the other one-storey and a movement joint with a row of double columns forms a boundary between.
The single storey element consists of a series of trusses spanning a concrete slab, creating a large column-free, flexible retail area. The trusses support lightweight metal decking to form a roof, which was constructed to make sure the casino was watertight if the Dome’s fabric roof was ever removed.
Bourne Steel completed the main works ahead of programme.
