Bourne Parking were appointed by SDC under a Pre Construction Services Agreement to develop the design of a new multi-storey car park at Cambridge Science Park. Following completion of the PCSA deliverables, Bourne Parking were then appointed by SDC to complete the detailed design and subsequent construction of the parking facility.
A major challenge on site was that the car park was constructed directly under major power lines, this impacted both the design and the construction methodology. We changed the proposed configuration to a ramped deck in order to lower the overall height of the structure and, due to the safe working zones, the majority of the construction was carried out using a telescopic forklift rather than our typical mobile crane.
Bourne Parking were responsible for the design and build of the steel frame, precast concrete floors, vehicle crash barriers, top deck waterproofing, above ground drainage, white lining, façade treatment, stair cores and associated finishes.
