Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council appointed Bourne Parking to provide a full turnkey solution for the car park at Welwyn Garden City which included developing and securing planning permission.
Following resident and Historic England comments during the planning approval process we assisted the Council with adjusting the design to conform with the local conservation setting.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Tony Kingsbury, said: “This is an important first step in our exciting plans to regenerate the town centre and take Welwyn Garden City into its next 100 years. Increasing parking capacity at Campus West will ensure local businesses and visitors to the town centre are not impacted during the wider regeneration work. It will also free up the Campus East car park for redevelopment into much-needed high quality homes.”
The design is a flat-deck parking configuration with an internal two-way ramp and provides 491 spaces (including 30nr disabled spaces, 21nr parent/child spaces, and 12nr electric vehicle charging bays).
Our scope as main contractor also included the sub structure, below ground drainage and attenuation, new grade level surfacing, Montex structure, vehicle barriers, top deck waterproofing, above ground drainage, fin façade treatment, white lining, open steel framed stair towers, M&E and landscaping.
