The Oxford Amenities MSCP presented a number of additional challenges compared to a ‘standard’ car park. The site was provided by the Main Contractor as a waterproof concrete box two storeys below ground and our car park frame was designed to sit within this box. Approximately 50% of the footprint included four split levels of basement parking and the remaining 50% a working kitchen for the adjacent research facility.
A critical aspect of the design and specification was the waterproofing of the internal loading bay sitting directly above the kitchen. This was completed with a traditional asphalt finish over a high performance MMA waterproofing membrane. The remaining above ground scope was relatively standard split-level construction including a steel frame, Montex precast floor units, pedestrian and vehicle barriers, top deck waterproofing, and precast concrete stair cores with a passenger lift.
The external facades were finished with a twisted aluminium fin system, designed to complement the high-tech nature of the facility and its surroundings.
