Market Sector: Rail, Parking

Client: Great Western Railway

Main Contractor: Bourne Parking Ltd.

Spaces: 1,853

Bourne Parking was contracted to supply the full turnkey design and build of a new multi-storey car parking facility at Didcot Parkway Station in Oxfordshire.

The car park has a capacity of 1,853 spaces arranged over ground level and five elevated floors. Each floor is served by a single main lift and stair core and three emergency stair cores.

The car park building comprises a galvanised structural steel frame with Montex concrete floor slabs and similarly the cores are manufactured using a precast concrete panel system. Externally, the car park is clad in striking aluminium aerofoil vertical fins arranged in an array of zones and spacing to give a differing perspective of light, that changes with the angle of view and position of the sun. This arrangement enables natural light to flood the parking decks whilst screening the view of the cars from the outside. In contrast the main stair core is clad in GWR corporate colour of dark ‘locomotive’ green, sympathetic to the surrounding natural environment.

The construction of the carpark was completed on time and within the contract period of 44 weeks on site.
