Market Sector: Rail

Client: Network Rail

Bourne Special Projects successfully completed the installation of the Custom House Excel Bridge during a 51 hour possession.

The 34 metre long bridge was installed as part of the construction of a new Crossrail station at Custom House, linking the station with ExCeL London. The new structure was lifted into place in three sections by two huge cranes with a combined weight of nearly a thousand tonnes.

Laing O’Rourke project director, Chris Warren, has said “What an awesome weekend. We`ve delivered on what we said we would, before the planned hand back time, and more importantly, without any incidents. An excellent result. Thank you for all your efforts and dedication, pure professionalism and commitment. A true example of how working as a team brings out the best results!”

With Crossrail, the journey between Custom House and Bond Street is now 10 minutes quicker and passengers travelling to and from Heathrow can reduce their journeys by more than 30 minutes.  Custom House station is run by Transport for London as part of London’s integrated transport network.
