In February 2011 National Grid embarked upon a seven-year project to rewire the capital via deep underground tunnels, in order to meet increasing electricity demand and help London access the renewable energy of the future.
Bourne Special Projects designed, manufactured and fitted steel platforms within the 40 metre deep vent shafts along the tunnel route.
BSPL also built many of the Head Houses that are used for pumping hot air away from the 200mm thick power cables that run the length of the London power tunnels.
